130km Fiber Optic Ploughing and Splicing – Wolverine to Bankend

Fiber Optic Ploughing and Splicing

CLIENT:

SaskPower

LOCATION:

N. Battleford to Meadow Lake, SK

ROLE:

Splicing & Construction Supervisor

PROJECT YEAR:

2011

SaskPower started installing fiber optics ~20 years before this project, prioritizing connecting as many switching stations as possible. In an effort to maintain secure, 99.99% reliable networks, we were now adding geographic redundancy. TeleControl North and South shared the scope of this project on a rotation. We were collectively responsible for pre-testing the reels of fiber optics before installation, supervision of all ploughing and boring, splicing the fiber along the route, tapping into the existing line with live traffic, and terminating the fiber optics in the station with an all-dielectric final link to isolate the station ground grid from the main fiber optic line.
