230kV Customer Owned Substation Maintenance and Support

CLIENT:

Meadow Lake OSB

LOCATION:

Meadow Lake, SK

ROLE:

Field Technologist

PROJECT YEAR:

2010

Meadow Lake OSB (now Tolko) is an OSB mill with a customer-owned 230 kV substation, plus 25 kV distribution and both 5 kV and 600 V loads. As part of a crew responsible for scheduled maintenance testing, we conducted tests on the transformer, switchgear, and protection systems. Night shift testing was required to minimize downtime by taking only specific electrical components out of service when it did not impede other maintenance crews. Being dedicated to plant uptime included an emergency call-out when a 5 kV reduced voltage motor starter was failing due to an incomplete sequence.
