AltaLink was refurbishing a twin transformer substation that was approximately 50 years old. As a brownfield project in the city of Calgary, extensive planning was required to avoid both planned and accidental outages. Responsible for commissioning and troubleshooting the RS232, RS485, Ethernet, and fiber optic substation network as part of the contract team for commissioning. The IEDs connected to the GE Harris D20 SCADA included online oil monitors, intelligent temperature monitors, tap changer controllers, metering, and protective relays.
