Fiber Optic Emergency Break Repair

CLIENT:

SaskPower

LOCATION:

Saskatoon, SK

ROLE:

Fiber Splicer

PROJECT YEAR:

2012

A fiber optic cable carrying critical traffic was accidentally ripped when an excavator failed to call for locates. A temporary repair was completed to restore traffic until a permanent repair could be organized. To minimize disruption, the repair was planned for the weekend, with two splicing crews working simultaneously. While splicing techniques remain consistent, working on a live critical system requires confidence and the ability to perform under pressure.
