To meet an aggressive schedule, Phase 1 of the Golden Lake switching station involved building a greenfield substation with a single 230kV-25kV transformer and three secondary feeders. TeleControl was the only SaskPower group involved during the construction phase, our scope included:
- Installing a fiber network between the IEDs and HMI for the 61850 network.
- Installing a JMUX node and coordinating network reconfiguration at five other sites.
- Installing the IRIG-B timing network.
- Assisting with commissioning a GE D400 redundant HMI with seven SEL 2440 RIOs and a PRP network carrying GOOSE messaging.
- Provided technical expertise to the team commissioning the transformer IEDs, including the Beckwith AVR, Remote I/O, Weschler temperature monitor, and Calisto online oil sampler, using procedures I authored on a previous project.
Phase 2 involved converting the substation to a switching station one year later, now with the complexity of working in a live station feeding customers. The scope included splitting the 230kV line, adding a 230kV radial feed to Edam, and a twin 230kV-25kV transformer with three (3) secondary feeders.
