Wind Farm 75MVA Collector Transformer Assembly

CLIENT:

Ghost Pine Wind Farm

LOCATION:

Three Hills, AB

ROLE:

Field Technologist

PROJECT YEAR:

2010

As part of a six-person crew contracted to assemble a 75 MVA, 34.5 kV/138 kV transformer, we assembled, vacuum-filled, and commissioned it under an aggressive 24-hour/day schedule. In addition to the challenges of night work, we faced the difficulty of completing the assembly during winter. The massive transformer had a capacity of 56,354 liters of oil. All work was completed without incident, thanks to excellent teamwork that mitigated the significant risks posed by working at heights on a slippery transformer and rigging and hoisting components in the dark.
